WRITING TIP: Discover deeper meaning with juxtaposition

writing tipSometimes a straight narrative can be given more layers of meaning by playing with juxtaposition. Try weaving an anecdote from your life against another narrative that attracts you. It could be something in the news, in literature or in history. It doesn’t have to be front page. For example, what gets added to the story of your first day of kindergarten if you weave it together with the discovery of an ancient relic, the typical day of an ant, or the flight of the last carrier pigeon?
