WRITING TIP: The power of confession

writing tipYou don’t need a priest to confess those things in the shadows that you would rather not bring fully into the light — a piece of paper will do, and writing your confessions can have the same cleansing effect on the mind and heart as a juice fast does on the body. Nothing looks as bad on paper as it does floating around half-formed in your mind. In fact, you might notice that whatever it is you’ve confessed is a theme that other humans likely also need to confess, and you won’t need to take your own transgressions so personally. You can burn those pages after — or use them to jump start a letter to someone, or an honest memoir. We can be far more transparent in our writing and our lives than our frightened false self would have us believe.
