WRITING TIP: Know which “self” is holding the pen

writing tipWe are made of many selves, each of which have their own personality and world view—an optimistic self, a sad self, a funny self, a lost self, a confident self, to name a few. We can’t possibly write from all of these at once—they contradict each other. It is useful to step back and see that you are the one who can see these selves, not permanently any one of them exclusively, no matter how much you are in the grip of one at the moment. This is the view from the soul. From here, you can allow any of those selves expression, but with far greater perspective than any of us can manage when we don’t know which self is holding the pen.
