WRITING TIP: Writing from relationship with another form of consciousness

writing tipMany writers source their material alone at a desk, drawing on memory and reflection. While this is certainly a valid approach, why not explore what emerges from direct relationship with what is present now? One way to do this: take notebook or laptop outside, still your mind and body, and come into contact with a finch, a red ant, an oak leaf or a blade of grass. Spend a few minutes feeling the space in between, where you meet another form of consciousness, and let your writing emerge from that place of palpable relationship to something both smaller and larger than your own human mind.
