We often think of a book or a piece of writing or a poem as a thing in itself – something that exists like an object exists with a meaning that is fixed and definite. But this isn’t the point at all. How would your writing and reading change if you thought of it not as a product meant to be judged and used, but as a doorway to an experience? Try reading your work — or the work of another — aloud with the intention to enter it with open curiosity. Allow it to trigger an exploration rather than seeing it as a fixed story or argument for you to agree or disagree with.
