WRITING TIP: Writers contain multitudes

freewritingF Scott Fitzgerald said, “Writers aren’t exactly people. They’re a whole bunch of people trying to be one person.” Much of what we do when we write is an effort to find some kind of truce between all of those conflicting inner beings: one brave, one afraid, one full of light, another tempted by the dark. It can be enlightening to allow one of those beings full control of the pen on a given topic, then turn it over to another. Let them each have their full say. Then see if from this honest and complete articulation, an obvious truth emerges.
